Environmental authorizations
Uruguayan law requires certain projects to be environmentally authorized. These authorizations cover different aspects depending on the nature of the project, including preliminar and operational environmental authorizations and industrial drainage requests. We have been granted several environmental authorizations to develop a large number of projects and activities, such as constructing buildings on the coastal stretch, mining minerals using explosives, and operating on quarries and sustainable energy parks.
Environmental Management Plans (EMPs)
EMPs are required and/or highly recommended to perform certain activities. Their purpose is to establish the necessary actions to take in order to prevent, alleviate and control the potential negative impact the projects and works may have on the environment. ISTEC has designed, supervised and updated the EMPs for many of its projects and operations, being also responsible for their implementation as projects develop.
Industrial Solid Waste Management Plans (ISWMP)
ISWMP is a mid-term planning tool required under Uruguayan law for the development of different activities. Its aim is to spot opportunities and improve waste management during industrial operations, based on the analysis of the current situation. ISTEC designs and supervises the implementation of different kinds of ISWMP, meeting the requirements set by national regulations. We supervise these plans along with our clients, submitting the corresponding yearly Sworn Statements on Solid Waste (SSSW) pursuant to the legal provisions.
Environmental audits, monitoring and supervision of operations
For different projects, we have carried out a number of supervision activities concerning the environmental management of the works, including environmental audits, monitoring and supervision of the operations, for the purpose of verifying the commitment to the environmental responsibilities assumed in each project.Some of the works carried out by ISTEC include the following: environmental assessment on railways, environmental audit of operations, monitoring of flora and fauna, audits on the use of natural resources and project implementation, monitoring soil compaction and characterization, action plans against erosion agents, and soil recovery.

• Industrial environmental management: we supervise the industrial activities carried out by our clients. We measure, sample and analyze effluents and soil, among other activities.
• As part of the environmental supervision, we elaborate our clients’ Environmental Report of Operations (ERO), a yearly statement required for certain areas pursuant to national regulations.
